Masham Cricket Club 1st XI

The 1st XI finished an excellent season as runners up in both the Nidderdale league and cup.

We entered the 2017 season with lots of optimism after winning the 2nd division in 2016. Ben Fielding our former overseas registered was available again as he had now taken up permanent residence in the UK. This allowed us to sign up another overseas player and we were delighted that Nathan Kleinig from Balnarring Cricket Club, near Melbourne was able to join us for the season.

Nathan was joined by Dan Woolston, who moved from Whitburn CC. Our third new signing of the season was Andy Heard. Andy joined us from Birstwith, bringing more experience to a team with a strong batting line up including 2016 young player of the year Bailey McCourt.

The team pushed for the title all season and even going in to the last game of the season the title was still a possibility. However champions Ouseburn won their last game whilst the weather intervened for Masham and so the side settled for second place. The team lost only 5 league games all season and won some nail biting finishes including victories over Birstwith and Ouseburn. The opening bowling pair of Ben Fielding and Craig Broadley were key to many of the victories, both enjoying a fine season. Fielding finished the top bowler within the league. Nathan Kleinig grew as the season went on and he finished leading run scorer and won the players player award at the end of the season. Bailey McCourt continued his excellent development and is now one of the top batsman in the league.

Defeat to Birstwith in the league KO final was hard to take, but overall progress is being made and we are now well established as one of the top teams in the league
